Title: Bourbon on the Rocks
Series: Barrel House #2
Author: Shari J. Ryan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 6, 2020

Blurb

Life isn’t a game.
Life isn’t an empty bottle of bourbon spinning on a warehouse floor as I hold my breath.

I feel weak when others perceive me as strong.
I’m passionate though I appear to hate the world around me.
I see the beauty in all ugly things.
I feel pain when I laugh.

No one knows the truth.
Well, no one knew the truth until now.
Somehow, Brody Pearson understands more about me than anyone else in my life. The severed connection should mean something significant, but I don’t know if I can forget all my self-proclaimed promises.

Bourbon on the Rocks is book two in the Barrel House series and while each book can be read as a standalone, you will connect a more deeper connection and meaning of many things in life after reading one or both of them. Love the title as this has so much more to do with just the Barrel and ice. In this story we will see secondary characters and a story of two companies; however, we see a side of Journey that was well hidden in the first book (she was a secondary character in the first book). Journey's name holds true for not only herself, but the story of live. It goes to show you that when bad things happen and takes you on a Journey you did not expect, with this could come the good. It may not seem like this at the moment, but you learn from them and see how things in life come full circle.
Journey is strong, but weak and you will see why. It is a huge hurdle to overcome and who better to help bring her out of her comfort zone than Brody. The tension between these two is strong, but the banter these two put out make up for it. He pushes her to in a way that makes her see her decision is worth it. You will feel the tension, heat, sadness and love endured by all characters while reading this. Those letters will leave your heart full. I highly recommend this book over a good drink of Bourbon (or your drink of choice).

Author: Kayley Loring
Genre: Steamy Romantic Comedy
Release Date: March 25, 2020

Blurb

NICO

She serves me coffee late at night when I come around to write lyrics,
but it’s not the caffeine I’ve gotten addicted to.

We’ve got the spark, but she’s the only woman in town
who seems to be immune to my charms.

When it’s time for me to leave for my cross-country tour,
I just can’t imagine not seeing her for months.

So I offer her a job on the road with me.

KAT

Everyone in LA knows that Nico Todd has a way with songs and with the ladies.

What he doesn’t know is that I would love to let him have his way with me.

But my life can only revolve around one infuriatingly cute guy—
the six-year-old that I live with.

Imagine my surprise when Nico finds out about my little boy
and tells me to bring him and my mom on the road too.

And imagine Nico’s surprise when he realizes my son
is the biggest charmer of them all.

Excerpt

I may have studied to be on the wrong side of the camera, because I am the Meryl Streep of acting like I don’t want to lock myself in a closet with Nico Todd and lick him all over.
I can feel his beautiful brown eyes on me as I walk away, but I’m not going to look back at him. If I look back at him, he’ll think I’m flirting. And I’m not flirting. I’m just a really awesome waitress who obsesses about the well-being and voice and eyelashes and butt and hands and full lips of all my customers. I check in with my other table to see if these non-Nico people want anything else, and quickly glance over my shoulder at him.
He’s scribbling in his notebook. Not looking at me. Good. Why should he?
But praise the Disney gods, he grew up good. I wasn’t a huge fan of that wizard show—always more of a movie nerd—but I watched the first season if I was at home when it was on. I was thirteen and my friends had pictures of Shane Miller and Nico Todd up in their lockers. I may have had Annie Leibovitz portraits and stills from Ken Burns documentaries taped to mine, but I had eyes and hormones. Still do!
I didn’t recognize him immediately the first time I saw him walk into the coffee shop, but my stomach flipped in a way that it hadn’t in years. We get all kinds of celebrities in here pretty much every night, because Beachwood is that kind of neighborhood. It’s a casual hipster restaurant, so most people roll in here wearing T-shirts and jeans, unless they’re talent agency doucheholes. But some people look better in T-shirts and jeans than others. Some people have that glow about them, even in a dimly lit retro coffee shop. And all the other waitresses who were on that shift were talking about Nico in the back of the house. It seemed like every one of them knew someone or had heard about someone who’d been out with him—once or twice. I’ve been somewhat out of the loop for about six years, so that was the first I’d heard of him becoming a musician, and that was when I knew for certain that he’d be off-limits for me.
But I mean, it’s my job to take good care of him while he’s here. And to occasionally wonder what the fuck he’s up to when he isn’t here. And to think about him every time I take a shower.
Because once I had listened to him on Spotify, I became a fan.
I fell in love with the songs and tried to stay detached from the singer.
Which is impossible, because he’s so good. His voice is sexy, sure, but he has this way of singing with his whole heart and soul even though he isn’t usually belting things out. And he’s got magic fingers because the way he plays guitar—I swear it feels like he’s strumming my clitoris. His songs are cool but warm at the same time, like an ice cream sundae. They’re all about women, of course, and it’s so easy to close your eyes and picture him singing to you. Even the songs that are about things not working out with a girl are somehow poignant and swoony.
But by the tenth time I’d listened to every song on all of his albums, I realized something: even though he writes and sings love songs—he never once says the words “I love you.”
Which is why he’d be nothing but trouble.
But I can still appreciate his talent when I’m alone, in the privacy of my bedroom.
I can still have a crush on him.
Everyone needs a little crush to get through the day.

Author Bio

Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn't allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

Blogs Review

Charmer will Charm your heart and you will fall in love with these characters especially a little boy who is too smart for his age. For those of us who have read, Sleeper and met Nico we were dying to read more about him. Now we can, here! Being famous, Nico was used to people throwing themselves at him so when he meets Kat while writing songs and trying to enjoy his coffee and sees he has no effect on her it is quite funny how it messes with his ego. Kat is a single mother and devoted to raising her son. She feels the connection they have and can have; however, she puts the pause on this knowing he isn't the settle down type of guy and she has her son to think about.
Love how Nico handles how he gets what he wants while giving her want she wants. Know it is bland, but I won't ruin this for you. It melts your heart! It ain't easy being on the road and this story shows just how hard it is with a child. It breaks your heart when it comes to the something that happens when exposed to the media (all I will say to not ruin anything), but your heart will melt when you see just how Nico handled it and the bond he has with this little man. It is realistic and will Charm your heart! I love the lyrics, video diary and banter we see in this book. Love music and tours, you will love this connection these characters have and how it plays out.

Title: Dirty Hookup
A Slayers Hockey Series Novel
Author: Mira Lyn Kelly
Genre: Hockey Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2020

Blurb

One look and I know… this chick hates me.
I should walk away, find some puck bunny to gleefully sit on my lap and tell me what a big, hot, hockey stud I am--totally true, BTW. But there’s just something about this feisty redhead I can’t let go. She’s got an edge to her that’s sexy as hell and a smart mouth that’s been tying me up since the night I met her.

She tells me to forget it, we’re not happening. But this isn’t the kind of woman a guy ever forgets. Especially when the air starts to sizzle and pop every time we get within ten feet of each other. She’s in my head and under my skin, and all I can think about is the way she looked at me that one time. Like she already knew how it could be between us.

I’m not the kind of guy a girl like her takes home… But maybe I want to be.

Trailer

Excerpt

Unfreakingbelievable.
Ducking around a corner, I press my back to the wall and suck one shaky breath after another until the spots behind my eyes finally clear, along with any wayward thoughts about a third Slayers hockey player needing a bed in the ER.
I can’t believe it. After all these years.
Quinn O’Brian.
Two feet in front of me. Giving me that same smile. The one that put my belly into free fall the first time I saw it. Left me breathless. And then less than a day later, left me humiliated. Devastated. Working up fantasies about the wrath I’d rain down on him if I ever saw him again.
So much for that badassery. My knees barely held me when I looked up to find those stupid sea-green eyes twinkling back at me like some Disney hero come to life.
Stupid eyes.
Stupid shoulders and muscles-everywhere body.
Stupid sandy blond hair standing up like some foolish girl just had her hands in it for the last hour.
And that introduction.
Blowing out a breath, I shake my head.
He didn’t even recognize me. Though why I ever thought he might is beyond me. Six years later and I’m still reading more into that night than there ever was. More into those soul-deep stares and slow touches. More into those tender words that turned out to be total lies.

Dirty Hookup is book two in the Slayers Hockey series and each book can be read as a standalone if you wish to pick up anywhere in the series. You will see other characters, but you won't have a problem following. This book is on Quinn and George and it is so nice to see when alpha hockey men who are cocky get Slayed outside of their game play. HaHa. It is dirty, funny and full of challenges. Quinn has his hands full especially when it comes to showing that he won't back down on trying to score both on the ring and off. George is love-able and boy does she have her hands full with not only her brothers, but Quinn.
I love how this series is written and events that occur and if you enjoy sports romance this series is highly recommended. All I have to say is bring on the Cam Sandwhich please!

Driving Me Crazy will have you going cuckoo for Coco Puffs (OK, maybe a cookie) while enduring this road trip. You must read the book to get it. HAHA. This book release could not have come at a better time for those of us dealing with a "Shelter in place" mandate. It will take you on a ride of a lifetime across the states to free yourself from going stir-crazy inside the house. You will laugh, feel some hurtful times and love how this developed and played out.  This story is about Will (AKA Rascal) from the band, MFB (My Favorite Band) and while each book can be read as a standalone they are inter-connected. Choose one or all and fall in love with MFB. Lisa knows how to write Rock Stars and she delivered again (but we never doubted her). Amazes me how she ups the story each time to make you have a new favorite book of hers. Sorry, but I cannot choose just one cause there is not a book by her I don't love.
Rascal really isn't so much of a Little Rascal after-all, OK, yes, at times he is, but we saw a side of him that we didn't see portrayed as a secondary character in the other books. Will is going on a road trip, but there is a little detour in his plans. OH boy! He truly would have driven me bat crazy with his actions a majority of the time. Being Amber, I would have hopped out of the car a few times, but glad she didn't. Amber is tagging along on this road trip for a much needed break and something else. I won't spoil anything. It is heartbreaking though and being with the he-devil in the car is enough to drive you crazy.
These two have known each other for years seeing as the connection they have in the band. They have a connection that they both fight and ignore, but when you take the time to stop driving a women crazy, you will see what is right in front of you. Just saying, HeHe. After all the craziness it was worth the ride! Now, just when you thought we were at the end of a series and sad as all the band members are no longer single, we get a shock that we do not expect! So all I can say, is Raise some Kane and bring more MFB! Your Driving Me Crazy, Lisa (I say this with love), but we love you for continuing to bring us MFB and snippets of AshMark.

Dear diary,
Once upon a time…

There was a girl with long golden hair who had the truest, bluest eyes that turned white when she cried.

She lived in a kingdom far, far away in a tower made of stone, but her mind was made of glass that she kept sharp as knives.

Where her memories hid behind her darkest doubts.
Her deepest thoughts.
Her diary became the only thing she could rely on.

No one saw through her looking glass.
No one cared.
No one tried.

Until the villain presented himself as the hero in her life.
He took and took and took some more.

With no regret.
With no shame.
With no apology.

The page never turned.
Their story didn’t end.
Tomorrow never came.
His life of debauchery was their journey to nowhere.

She’d give anything to go back in time.
To walk where she had walked.
To see what she had seen.
One step.
One breath.
One day at a time.
Though in the end, “I love you” were just words.

That destroyed us inside.

Life of Debauchery is a duet, by our favorite angst author and From the First Verse we are hooked on Cash "f*^k;'in" McGraw in this first book and she leaves us yearning for the final book in this duet, Till the Last Lyric like now. Boo! these tears and hurt truly do Pierce your heart. Be still and have faith that good ole' M will redeem our angst hearts in the end like she always does. It wouldn't be an M story if she did not bring us to our knees and then have our heart beating softly in the end. One of things that you will love about her writing is that if you just stumbled upon her books, you can pick it up from any book or series as she gives us the insight on the secondary characters to make you feel connected to the story and all characters. If you read the Love Hurts duet, you may or may not have loved Cashed. He is a true McGraw!
Cash gives us his story and though we knew that he struggled with how he wanted his life to be (all about music) and his family wanted something else. Never did you expect these close knit families to be so torn like it was! Your heart truly breaks many times. Journey is a spit-fire and from her baby years to now her and Cash have always had a connection and love of music. There were a gap in years that they did not speak, but you will laugh at Alpha Cash when he realizes it is her. Love how the band is when it comes to this as well! Hilarious! All it take is one ring of the phone to bring him to his knees again! Oh boy, be still your heart is all I can say! We got left at the door in the end of the Love Hurts duet and now our heart is Pierced again when you realize what you did and begin to spiral out of control worse than before. Will Journey live up to her name and connection with Cash to help him overcome his demons? Till the Last Lyric is going to crush us before it leaves us with a smile (I hope at least!). So while we wait for the final book in this duet to release listen to a little Johnny Cash to hold you over!
