Review: Fighting To Save Us

Fighting To Save Us Fighting To Save Us by Sarah Stevens
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fighting to Save Us is book two in the Saved by Love series and can be read as a standalone; however, you do see them in book one and will see James/Kat (book one) make appearances in this book and their status so it is truly to each one's preference. I loved both of these stories in this series with all the twists and turns we don't expect and the love all characters have for each other, but this one will have your eyes tearing quite a few times. This story touches on a topic that isn't really spoken in the book world so bravo for writing this. Bren and Max have a tough decision to make in many aspects throughout this story, you will see why their actions occur and can somewhat relate to why they would do this. We may not agree with it, but in the end we will see that the Fight was worth it. This is what true love is about being there through the toughest times in the world. It won't be easy, but with support you come out that much stronger. Oh your heart will melt, hurt and beat throughout this story, but the unexpected outcome is the cake topper! Leaving it at that to avoid a spoiler. This is one series I highly recommend by this newer author and I hope we get to see a story on Jackson and now Mike. So grab that coffee, curl up with a blanket and get ready for a story that will tug and pull at your heart.

Title: Every Kiss You Steal
Series: Redeeming Love Series
Author: J.E. Parker
Genre: New Adult Romance
Release Date: October 22, 2019
Her past is plagued with darkness...
He's determined to make her future brighter.
--Ashley--
My life was once a nightmare.
Because of my past, the walls I've constructed are mighty.
But those walls begin to waver the day I meet him...
Chase Jacobs, star quarterback, and the cutest boy I've ever seen.
With his easy smile and sweet words, he's perfect.
Problem is, I'm not.
My scarred soul is corrupted, my battered heart tainted.
And my secrets? They have the power to destroy me.
Plagued with demons, I fight to keep Chase at a distance.
But he's not having it.
Determined to steal my heart, he fights to make me fall.
It's a mistake.
You see, the thing about secrets is that they don't stay hidden forever,
and whether I'm ready or not, mine are about to be revealed.
Once they are, will Chase then walk away for good?
Or will the love we share truly conquer all?

J.E. Parker is an American romance author who was born and raised in the great state of North Carolina. A southern belle at heart, she’s addicted to sweet tea, Cheerwine, and peach cobbler. Not only is J.E. married to the man of her dreams (albeit a total pain in the rear), she’s also the mother of a herd of sweet (sometimes), and angelic (only when they’re sleeping) children. Despite their occasional demonic behavior and bottomless stomachs, J.E. loves her little tribe more than words could ever express. On the weekends, you can find her sitting on the couch, cheering on (or cursing) her favorite football team, stuffing her face with junk food, and guzzling a bottle of cheap red wine. When she’s not busy making sure her husband doesn’t burn the house down or acting as a referee for her fighting children, J.E. enjoys reading, writing (obviously), and listening to a wide variety of music.

HOSTED BY:

Every Kiss you Steal is book seven in the Redeeming Love series and probably one of the most in the series that takes your heart and steals it over and over until those little kisses start to help heal some scars. Don't get me wrong! Each book in this series deals with a sensitive topic and hurts your heart, but heals it as well, but this one will reach you more based upon how young Ashley is and the life she endured already. While it ain't easy reading about any of these topics, I truly believe that while no one should have to endure these bad situations, with the bad came the good when the time was right. Life isn't easy, but it shows that the bad can make you stronger and your past may help someone else. Pay it forward and we see that here as well!
Ashley has lived the life no child should have to ever live (as does Chase); however, her situation is worse than what we saw portrayed in the prior books. If you have not followed the series no worries you will see it all come out in this story so you are never lost. Be still your heart over and over reading this! Ashley has demons and secrets and you can only keep them hidden for so long before it tries to destroy you again. Chase and Ashley have a connection and although she keeps him at arms length he makes her feel things she believes she shouldn't be. Will he be there for her once the secrets are revealed? Holy Steal your breath away! I did not expect some twists in this story and how some of this comes full circle. This is all I will say to allow you to experience this story and the events that occurred.
As you will see from the secondary characters that they will love and protect you no matter what, it truly shines when you see how Anthony is and Shelby (Ashley's parents) are. Yes, they were protective before, but the love they have for their children is endless and how every parent should be. Let's not forget that while your heart may hurt reading this, we get some much needed laughter from Grandmama and her crazy self! Her and the crazy chick girls make those sadder moments better with their antics. These stories are full of real life sensitive topics, takes your breath away, but leaves you with a positive message in the end. Oh yeah, and the suspense just keeps getting better and better in each story! That ending with a bomb dropper was a device holder and did not see that one coming! I cannot wait for this to be revealed in a future release.

Title: Too Good at Goodbyes
Author: RC Boldt
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 29, 2019

Blurb

First Top 40 hit at age seventeen? My first tabloid breakup scandal quickly followed.
Earned my first Grammy? Discovered Mommy Dearest was embezzling my money.
Landed a leading role in a movie? My fiancé called off our engagement the next day.

I might have a multi-million-dollar recording contract, a sold-out world tour, and more money in the bank than I ever imagined, but every time I hit a milestone in my career, my personal life suffers.

Then in steps my new bodyguard, rugged and with a past I connect with. The closer we get, the more powerful my feelings grow, complicating our professional relationship.

I thought Kane would be different. I hoped he’d be the one man to stand by my side, undaunted by the fame and attention that trails me.

The press calls me the “Ice Princess of Pop” because of my unyielding façade throughout heartbreak and betrayal. Perhaps it’s time to show them the real me.

With every syllable, I pour out my emotions and allow them to puddle, forming lyrics from my soul’s breath. And with each word, my broken heart cries out for Kane, begging him to help me break this pattern.

To help me stop being so damn good at goodbyes.

Present Day

The Super Bowl Halftime Performance
Hard Rock Stadium
Miami Gardens, Florida

Facing what’s estimated to be over sixty-seven thousand people with my favorite guitar strapped snug against me, I prepare to sing my final song.

Standing up here in front of thousands of fans is second nature. I performed in countless dive bars before breaking onto the scene and securing my first record deal, then moving on to sold-out world tours. Which means I shouldn’t have sweaty palms like a preteen working up the nerve to talk to her crush.

My heart shouldn’t be racing like a horse competing in the Kentucky Derby.

My stomach shouldn’t churn as though I’ve eaten ceviche from a questionable food truck.

Tremors shouldn’t affect my hands like a virgin embarking on their deflowering.

None of this should be afflicting me. But it is.

Because of him.

Because of the current state of my heart.

But this is how I deal with heartache. With tragedy. With…life.

“This is a little different, and I hope you like it,” I rasp into the mic. Noise from the cheering fans is deafening, and like every time I perform, the surreal quality never quite fades.

Tonight marks the first time I’ll share a song I wrote about someone who eviscerated my heart entirely. My other relationships—and subsequent failures—pale in comparison.

It’s no secret that love and broken hearts inspire great songwriting. With regard to the latter, it’s never hard to find someone mourning an unrequited love, suffering heartache, or wishing they’d find their own glorified everlasting love.

But have you noticed when male musicians write about it, they’re never on the receiving end of the snide, sarcastic comments of, “Oh, poor thing. He’s rich and famous and can’t find love. Boo-freaking-hoo.”?

Yet when I write lyrics that are the closest thing to ripping out my heart and putting it on display for the world, I receive the “She’s probably selfish and put her career first” or “She probably cheated, and now she’s regretting it” or “Mm. So sad. The Ice Princess of Pop is heartbroken.”

My response? Fuck that noise. I’m writing from my heart and soul, regardless of how damaged they might be at any given time. And as long as my fans continue to support me, I’m going to keep on keepin’ on.

“I’d like to dedicate this song to a special person.” I duck my chin, willing myself to maintain composure. “It’s called ‘Embers.’”

Once I strum the first note on my guitar, everything around me fades. My voice emerges from the shards scattered within my chest where my working heart once was.

When I play that final chord, I see tears streaming down the faces of the fans in the front rows. And yet again, I’m reminded of something all too easily forgotten. That there are others who can relate to lyrics written from my soul’s breath.

Because in heartache, we’re never truly alone.

BLOGS REVIEW

Too Good at Goodbyes is a standalone by this author. RC has struck again with a story that captivates your attention and has you seeing that the grass is not always greener on the other side. She flips the rock star romance to a female lead instead of the male lead and I believe it makes the story so much better. Simone King is the 'Ice princess of Pop' and on top of the world, but we should all know that what we see is not always what is behind the scenes when it comes to Hollywood. Bad sells, but I have to say the Good shall learn to sell in this day and age.
Kane, ex-military and works as security is struggling in life/love, his buddies see this and help him. The perfect opportunity to step away comes and he lands the job of guarding the 'Ice princess'. How bad can it be? Like the tabloids say or worse? Well I'm sure not going to tell you, so read the story and find out! Haha Both of these characters have hearts of gold, but have bad luck in the love department. I love how protective the ones who truly care for Simone are! This story is full of drama cause let's face it she's famous, but it shows you just how well stars hide what is real and is a shame cause I think real is better. The ones who see you for you are and not what is portrayed are the true ones that won't say Goodbye! You will feel the tension, heartache, love, laughter at times and see that with music you too shall find love when the time is right. RC scored a hit with this rock star romance! But then again, did we expect anything differently. Each story gets better and better and I love her writing style.

Blogs Review

This is a second-chance, friends to lovers story that could be read as a standalone. This is a spin-off of the Fight for me series, but if you are anything like me, I suggest reading their parents story to get a more in-depth perspective (behind the scenes) of the past and just how close that bond was between Frankie Leigh and Evan. Yes, you completely get the past and present in this story, but you'll see more of the struggles that Evan felt that his actions would help his family. We all know it made it worse, but I will say if he did not do this then they would not have had one of the most special things that happened for the right reason. Trying to leave it at that to avoid any spoilers.
Frankie Leigh and Evan had a strong bong as children and it continued throughout their lives. This was true love unconditionally, defects and all and makes your heart hurt and melt all at once. Once you pick up this story you will want to devour the entire book in one sitting. It is full of emotions, suspenseful and shows that no matter what occurs in life if you have love and family you will make it cause with the bad comes the good. Oh your heart at the end of this story has those stars shining bright!
I love reading spin-offs of the children and seeing where they parents are now. Hope that Gingham Lakes will continue to be shown in more upcoming books by A.L.
