Winnie thinks she has the perfect life. Two beautiful, healthy children. A police officer husband. A job that she loves. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s a nationally ranked marathon runner. Fast forward six months, and her perfect life has imploded. Winnie finds herself in a completely new world, and this new world is a brutal bitch. In this new life of hers, her husband is gone. He realizes, at the worst possible time, that he’s no longer in love with her. He’s in love with her best friend. So he leaves, and doesn’t look back. Her sixteen-year-old daughter is in trouble with the law, and she’s barely making ends meet thanks to losing the job that was keeping her and her tiny family afloat. Then, the last thing that could make it all bearable, her running, is ripped out from under her, too. Thanks to a spinal stroke that leaves her unable to walk, let alone run, she’s having to relearn how to do the simplest of tasks—such as putting on her own pants. She’s at the lowest of lows, and the last thing she wants is a sexy, bearded, motorcycle riding alpha to tell her how to live her life. But Steel Cross never asks her what she wants. *** The moment Steel Cross sees Winnie’s daughter steal some shoes for her younger brother, he knows he’s in trouble. He’s a sucker for misunderstood teens. After all, he was once one himself. He knows he can’t just walk away, and the moment he sees that troubled teen’s mother, he doesn’t just know it, he feels it. Down to the very bottom of his soul. With his share of hard knocks, he knows that he shouldn’t step in and make his move on a fellow police officer’s ex. There’s a code, after all, yet he just can’t seem to help himself. He’s done being the good guy. Sometimes he just wants to be bad. And Winnie makes him realize that being bad is still kind of good. As long as you’re with the right person.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 8, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
HOSTED BY:

I still don’t know where Lani finds these quotes before each chapter, but I love reading them and laughing right along with the beginning of a new chapter. Whether they are quotes between the characters or related to something else, you will be chuckling right along with the statement or quote, they are that funny.
Law and Beard=Steel Cross and Big Papa. We always got to see Big Papa doing what he does best and that is either protecting his town being the Chief of Police or doing his duties as the president of DWR (Dixie Warden Rejects MC) and now we get to see the in-depth side to him in this story. Can I just say forget the saying, “three times a charm” cause I am going to stick with “six times a charm”? haha You shall see why I state this after you read the book. Steel may be older, but boy is he HOT and his heart of gold just makes him even more HOTTER. He pretty much has it all including some crazy ex’s, but his world is turned upside down when Winnie is brought into the picture.
Conleigh is Winnie’s daughter and seeing as their world was also turned upside down but not in a happy way like Steel’s it tugs at your heart. Winnie thought she was happily married until she wasn’t and then add into the mix some medical problems and she’s barely surviving above water for her and the kids. She is definitely one strong women, I’ll say. Conleigh’s tries to be the best teen/adult she can be for her and her brother, but let’s face it with teen years come trouble. Luckily, Steel is there each time with his soft heart helping to rectify the situation before it gets worse and this is even before Winnie and Steel get together. Codi’s knowledge of information makes you laugh, but I will say you will feel sorry for these kids when it comes to Matt (Codi’s father and Conleigh’s step-dad). He’s a real piece of work, Matt that is.
Did you really think it would end there? Oh no, we should all know that we will get some action of twisted turns and secrets and LLV blows it away in this story. Whew, you had us clutching the device with our hearts in our throat a few times. But, of course she redeems our hearts and even teaches us some things we may not have known about before. I had never heard of a spinal stroke and it was amazing how this did not stop Winnie from life itself and it certainly didn’t stop Steel either. Oh my, I still chuckle at the “Big Papa” scene with Tommy Tom and Tally. Hilarious! When you get to this part you will chuckle too. As I have said over and over, it never ceases to amaze me how LLV can weave these stories and there is not one book that you do not fall in love with. All the characters and secondary characters are meant for each other and the blending just works so well. Love the ending and this story just goes to show you that perfectly imperfect people can find love to and age doesn’t really matter. This blended family is one you would love to have over for dinner, trust me after you meet them all. With this said, you do not have to read any other books in this series to enjoy yourself some Silver Fox.
