Coke Solomon has lived a full life.
He’s a retired army drill sergeant, so he is more than used to getting his way.
And if he can’t have it his way? Well, let’s just say that’s never happened before…
At least not until Cora Maldonado walks into his life, demanding he fall in line, or she’ll find a way to make his life hell.
He finds out fast that Cora marches to the beat of her own drum, and a lot of times that drum takes her farther away rather than closer to where he feels she needs to be.
He can’t stand it.
He wants her, and he has to have her.
It doesn’t matter that she’s twenty years younger than him, and has a father that would rather see him dead than have his baby girl anywhere near him. Nor does it matter that his ex-wife is highly offended that she’s been replaced with a much younger woman.
Despite the odds stacking against them, he’ll fight for what he wants.
His ex-wife, her father, and their age difference be damned.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

This is book #4 in the Simple Man series and Coke and Cora's story. While you don't have to read these books in order, it is best to read them all to get the full connection to the secondary characters and how they intertwine.
Coke was your burly man and I can only imagine what that voice sounds like, but a papa bear at heart when it came to his daughter. Bravo to you for staying married for so long just to try to give your daughter a home, because I wanted to ring crazy bat's neck many times in this story. Plot twist oh yes, we know Lani loves to give us these and twist it was and your speechless, "who does that?" Crazy!  Cora I love that she was socially awkward and somehow the crazy friends fit in the friendship category. They helped try to expand her horizons is how to best state this. They are still too funny and crazy with the things they say and do.
Crazy Ex doesn't even to begin to describe this woman, but in the end you got what you deserve. The bonding between Cora and daughter was awesome and well overdue for the way the mother was with her. If you didn't love Coke before with how he was in the prior book, then the love of his daughter and what he went through to raise her as best as he could should do it. I loved the connection between the characters and the slow-burn lead up. Still not sure how Lani does this, but crossing over these characters is the icing on cake then add in little clues of what may be to come and you know we may just get all our eggs hatched after all. Blended families Lani style is the best family/friends you will find if they ever came to life outside of our head. LOL
Characters are never alike and you cannot help but fall in love with them and for those of you turned off by age gaps this was not a huge gap and pretty normal in society. I love this series, but then again there isn't a series I don't love by Lani. The story lines are awesome and the quotes in each characters chapter is too funny sometimes. While we wait for the next book in any of her series to be released we should read "how to care for chickens?" Kidding just ask Lani. haha
