Excerpt

“Evan, I want to know what happened, but I have a life now and you need to know…” She trails off, her eyes darting away from mine.

“What?”

Gazing up at me, she continues, “Whatever you have to say, it’s not going to change a thing. We’re over.”

My heart twists and breathing becomes difficult. Mother fuck, her words cut deep, hurting even though they aren’t true. Sure, she believes them on some level—she had to, in order to get through what I did. Yet, along with the hurt and disappointment swimming in her eyes, there’s also tenderness and love.

“Tell me you’re happy and I’ll walk away.”

We always pushed each other, challenged the other to face our fears, to be honest with ourselves, with each other. I need to hear her say it. I don’t believe it, but if she is over me, I need to hear it in her voice and see it in her face—not because I want to, but because it’s the only way I can even begin to accept that we’re over. Even then, it’s not possible.

“I’m happy.” Her tone is laden with bravado, but no true emotion. Even her gaze, which never wavers from mine, is flat.

Shaking my head, I briefly cast my eyes downward to suppress my smile. “No, you’re not.”

“Van.” I flinch at that fucking name.

As a child, I thought it was so fucking cool to have a nickname that only my best friends would call me. Now, hearing “Van” from her pretty lips, I want to obliterate the word from her vocabulary, fucking kiss the word out of her.

“You can call me asshole for all I care, you’re not happy,” I retort in frustration. Catching my tone, I breathe deeply and loosen my fists to relax. “Don’t lie to me, and most of all, don’t lie to yourself.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about. You want to see what you want. I’m with Greg, and we’re happy.”

She grimaces infinitesimally, then averts her eyes from me. Unable to read her, I’m not sure if it’s because she means it and doesn’t want to hurt my feelings or if the lie tastes nasty in her mouth.
“Sweetness, I know everything there is to know about you, without apology. You can’t lie to me.”

BLOGS REVIEW

Blue is a color you are feeling while reading this. Oh, you may see red a time or two, good or bad, but I think the balls and not the heartbreak is a little more fitting for the color. Devotion is key here. I’m just going to jump right in here and say my thought on this before I proceed in my review so here it goes…
Oh, Evan you saintly man you, how you waited that long is a shock to me, but it makes you more loveable especially after you felt you did what was the best interest for Carys. I get it I do. To wait that many years is a shock, but not something a typical man would do and I felt made people love that the table was turned on this outcome since it is usually the other way around. Blue definitely comes to mind in this aspect. Haha. Carys for someone so young, I can see why Evan waited and to see that years later you were still struggling to move on, but did tugs at you just a bit especially when you find out that your Blue feelings were another Blue for Evan. I get it, I do, but it almost makes you nauseous once you find out that you lost it to someone other than Evan after a loop was thrown at us.  What you say!? Oh, bet you would like to know. Nope, the only thing I am saying is we don’t always love the V card to the right person. I’m sure 99% of people can agree on that.
We see a pair that was meant for each other, but the age difference being a teen put the brakes on the relationship. Evan was three years older than Carys and the BF to her brother, Ry. He was 18 to her 15. As you read the story it will flip back and forth to the past and the present. It makes sense on why it was done this way, but at times I felt a little lost in a few gaping years as they were older. They are now in their 30’s, but there is a scene in the book that makes is questionable on why the relationship didn’t come into play in the late 20’s. I won’t provide any spoilers, just my opinion of the gap. Even with the gap, I loved the story so don’t let this deter you in any way.
Evan and Carys have grown up together and their families were close, there is a tragedy and you will see how it affects them and as details unfold with Evan you see that he made the right decision for all involved. I don’t know how I would react though if I knew the inside scoop to what only Cooper knew though. I’ll just stick with we (meaning Carys, the family and us) weren’t as mad at Evan once the deets unfold and that his swooning had us or his patience.
This story is intense, passionate and touching. You will learn how to forgive those you love and want as well as deserve a second chance at romance. This book is a standalone in a series, but I am thinking if we go back and read the first book we may be able to see more of a side to Evan and Carys and then the lightbulb will go off and say oh, that made sense in Blue. Plus, who doesn’t want to read more on Ry’s and Tate cause his story sounds very intriguing based upon what we see in this book. I am looking forward to the next book on Coop as there is something about an FBI hottie that leaves you wanting to know the inside scoop on them. So, we see Red in book one and Blue in book two, wonder what color Coop will end up being? White or Black maybe. We shall see!
