A forced sentence leads to a reckless passion…….
Hadley
When my husband walked out on me over a year ago, it devastated me. When the divorce papers came, it killed me. When we had to sell our house, it broke me.
But then he moved in with his new flavor of the month and told our daughter his new woman wasn’t into children. That pissed me off.
Now Riley feels abandoned, and I can’t make it better; no matter how hard I try. I’m desperate to help her adjust to the loss of a male figure in her life. The companion program that matches adults up with children who have loneliness and abandonment issues is my last hope.
The counselors tell me he’s doing community service hours, and I ask to sit in on his meetings with Riley. The minute I see him astride the matte black Harley, I know neither my nor Riley’s life will ever be the same again.
Trick
Community Service. Two words I should be thankful for, but I’m not. I resent the hours it’s away from building my business. The two previous kids I'd been paired up with didn’t work out because their mothers were more interested in getting in my bed. This next match with a little girl is my last hope. Unless this kid works out, I’m destined to serve time.
When they push her into the room wearing pink converse with a black dress, her crazy curls barely held back by the barrette in her hair, and studious glasses on her face, I can tell she’s scared - of new people, of change, of being pushed aside. Something inside of me breaks, and I want this girl to feel wanted again.
What I’m unprepared for is meeting her mom. The second our hands touch, there are fireworks, bright lights, and a picture of the future I could one day have. The future I’ve never allowed myself to wish for.
Community service becomes more than a chore, more than time I resent for being taken away from me. In the months that follow, I realize they’re just like me: they’ve been abandoned, left behind by the world, forgotten by those who should love them.
Thanks to the one last hope in both our lives - we found the light in the darkness we’d been searching for.

This isn't your typical average second chance romance, it is a second chance at life romance. Both Patrick "Trick" and Hadley had to start life over, but if they both didn't experience what they did in the past they would not have met and that would be horrible cause they are the IT couple and add Riley to the mix and your ovaries explode.
Hadley was devastated when her ex-husband cheated on her and filed for divorce. Oh, let's not forget he threw away his daughter to in all this. Well he wasn't even a dad to her while married, but still. She was a single mom doing the best she could and boy did she do an awesome job! Riley was looking for what all kids without parents yearn for the other half of someone to look up to. They signed up for a Companion Program so that Riley could see not all men are like her dad.
Trick was just trying to get on with his life and finish his community service. He would always have the title of "Ex-Con" on his record, but only he could make his life better and he was with his business. He had it with the Companion Program as the mom's were always trying to hook up with him. Irony is on him as this was his last chance at fulfilling his community service hours and meeting Hadley and Riley he never expected the sparks that appeared when they entered the meeting room. He did what the other moms did, but it was one of his best decisions ever.
Trick's name kinda lives up to one of the scenes in the book, Halloween. That scene will have your heart beating and swooning all at once. It was a Trick that brought them into his life per say, but it was a Treat to have want he never knew he wanted-a Family.
This relationship was not an easy decision for both of them and they had Riley to think about. Riley with her curls was cute and hilarious with the turnaround she did and comments she made when it came to her and Tricks friendship. I love that the cats name was won by Riley, guess Trick thought the cat was his since he owned it before Riley came into the picture. Wrong, cats bonding was with Riley from beginning. There are quite a few moments that I wanted to tear up when it came to Riley/Trick bonding or just Trick/Hadley moments, but the ultimate was near the end and the ending. No, I am not telling you. Read the book! All I will say is that the name Phillip, the ex-husband to Hadley and donor to Riley fits him to a T cause he sure is a tool (screwdriver ) that one.
Love reading books that involve children and single parents cause it makes it so much more real than just your typical HEA read and shows the maneuvering you have to do to get quality time together. This is my first book by this author and it will not be the last, trust me.
