DANCER by Jamie Schlosser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Well dance me stupid, I didn’t expect this story based upon what we learned of Colton when we met him in Trucker (the first book in the series). Colton was in a relationship with a girl named Tara and when you read the little teaser on him at the end of Trucker I was a little worried there cause I hated her for him. Happy dance over here when we learn they are no longer together! We see a side of Colton that is not fairly shared for the younger men and bravo for the author for bringing up this topic. While it may affect men, the “performance anxiety” was the choice of the women cause his heart knew what it truly wanted it just had to wait until fate decided to interplay for him to see the bulb works. Haha sorry I had too!
Colton goes to this bar to relieve some stress is how I will best state this, but a little cage dancer catches his eye. He thinks she looks familiar, but cannot be sure. They share a dance, when she’s done working and while this is completely outside of her normal self, she feels he is safe and not harmful. Well just like the bridges fall down, Colton is going to be upside down when things fall into place and he realizes that Brielle (Bri or Ellie as he called her) isn’t who she is said to be and you start to think maybe that one night was best left unsaid. Who am I kidding? With that chemistry and knowing the bulb works you better find out all you can to see if this can go anywhere.
Ellie as he calls her knows from the instant she looks into his eyes dancing who he is. Oh my, I don’t know what I would have done. She’s brave to step out of the box though and take a leap of faith. She’s had her heartbroken as a child when Colton had to leave the first time so could she handle this again once he knows who she is and why she cannot stick around at night when she is done working.
If you didn’t love Colton before, you will love him once you see the interactions that come with Ellie’s story and life. For those of us who loved him from the beginning, you want to squeeze him for him and his heart of gold. The bonding alone is heartwarming. Your heartbreaks quite a few times reading this story, but this is becoming heartwarming as it unfolds. Ellie and Colton share a situation that is very realistic and many may have experienced so it touches home to many. We get to see our Trucker, Travis and Angel a little too so that’s a plus for us who have read book one. Haven’t read book one, have no fear each book in this series can be read as a standalone, but when you get to see the characters that are in the background it makes it even funnier when you see things and you start laughing right along with them. At no time do you feel left out, you feel like family even if extended. You can certainly read these out of order! These stories are told in dual POV and it’s kinda hard to choose who is better Travis or Colton cause I love them both. Can’t wait to see who is next in the series cause we are outta men here! In the meantime, grab a jigsaw puzzle until we know who is the next Good Guy.

TRUCKER by Jamie Schlosser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
First let me state, the I had the chance to meet this author last year in Chicago and had purchased this book and boy was it hard to choose with all those hot covers. Yes, I am cover girl and then add into the fact that I about dropped my jaw when she told us who was on the cover. You’re a lucky girl is all I can say! Haha Aside from that once I got home and read the synopsis it was really intriguing and for this being the authors first book you would not have known that this was her debut book.
Travis is kind, possessive, lovable and oh my, a hot Trucker (duh, see the title, but then again you might want to insert an F instead of a T) winks, but all I can say is we need more truckers like Travis and his partner in crime, Colton. Yes, he being a truck driver is stereotyped, but he is anything but what truckers are portrayed as. He knows the rules, you don’t pick up hitchhikers from the road, but wouldn’t you stop if you had a kind heart if you seen an Angel on the road especially after you recognized the person from the truck stop. Well, meet Angel then. Ironic that he called her this before he even knew her name.
Angel becomes a runaway right before she turns eighteen as she flees her foster home. This girls story will break your heart and it is amazing on how kind she is based upon her life experiences to date. She knows the dangers of hitchhiking, but if she wants to get to CA to try to reconnect with her mom this is her only option on limited funds she had saved up. Don’t get me wrong, yes, she was naïve at times, but which teenager (almost adult) isn’t so you cannot fault her for this. Luckily by the stars of fate, Travis is the one to pick her up off the road instead of some creeper; however, it sure does make an interesting story on how you met. Travis offers to take her all the way to CA in a couple weeks as he has a load going there so she gets a home for a couple weeks until then. Her instant connection with Travis is touching and then add into her relationship with Beverly (neighbor), Colton (Travis’ roommate, brother by another mother and his co-worker) and then Hank (Colton’s dad) and you would never know she wasn’t from that small town. Not only do you fall in love with all these characters, but Beverly will have you rolling on the floor in laughter, you have been warned. She’s hilarious!
As they continue to bond, Travis knows that she is meant to stay in town and be together, but how does he make her see this when she’s leaving in a couple weeks, you add a crazy girl into the mix that he’s not in a relationship with and then you know that she’s the one that you want to lose your V-card with? Can I just say that I love that you not only see one of them with the V-card you see them both like this? Holy hotness, this makes this Trucker hotter than he was when you first meet him. Beverly gets a high five for speed and you will see why once you read this and understand. Quite comical.
“Drunk Girl” by Chris Janson is a perfect song for Travis when it comes to a scene in this book with a girl he had a date with. He was truly a man in this instance and once again shows he does opposite of the stereotypes. Love the dual POV and how real the story felt and how it slowly progressed into something more. You will laugh, cry and feel the heartbreak when some events unfold with Angel. I’m excited to read more by this author and Colton’s story sounds very intriguing based upon what we know of him already.

Review: Dropout
Dropout by Jamie Schlosser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the third book in the Good Guys series; however, each book can be read as a standalone. You see characters from the prior books here and there but nothing that won’t make sense if you didn’t read the prior books. While I’m reading a series that can be standalones, I am always trying to figure out who is going to be next in line for their own story. This one got me though cause this small town was limited on some Good Guys and hot ones at that. I love how the story played out and how you watch them grow. Mr. Peabody (poor James) was your average bad boy and party animal in college so this leads him to be a near college dropout unless he shapes up and makes reality happen. He’s got two months of Summer to shape up since he’s been shipped basically to good ole Grandma’s house for the Summer. He feels like a failure, but knows he needs to straighten his act to continue his full ride to school. What could possibly go wrong in this little town with limited places? Haha you shall see!
Grandma is hilarious more than ever in this book and that Bird has you laughing. For those of you who have read the prior books you see a small side of Grandma (Beverly), but in this book we get a more in depth look since its her grandson who is actually one of the Good Guys. Mackenna is Grandma’s neighbor and Gram certainly knew how to play these two like a fiddle. She’s a songwriter, has a kind heart and hasn’t had the best past, but from the moment she meets the thorn in her side, Jimmy he sneaks his way into her heart and leaves her feeling off kilter. So, the only way to rectify this since his time is limited is a benefit solution. Their chemistry and feelings are real, but what do you do when the time is up for him to head back to College? Well guess you will have to read the book to find out. Hehe
Jimmy really does a full 180 while staying at Grandma’s for the Summer and the age difference really was not a big deal. 21 to 19 is fine with me and plenty of people cannot say they themselves haven’t been there in age. What I loved it that for once the girl was older than the boy! Mack is still feisty as ever, but socially awkward. Though they way she bonded so quickly with the other Good Guys girls, you would never know really. You laugh, whimper cause your heart hurts, a moment of being scared there, but you see how much he truly protects her and cares for her. Love the bonding that Jimmy was able to do with Hank, Travis and Colton. I would probably break my car just to take it to the shop, just saying.
This story is told from a dual POV, we see glimpses of how our other Good Guys/Gals are doing and we think we know who may be next in the series. You may gain a few pounds reading this book with all the junk food that sounds so good. These Good Guys just keep getting better and hotter and I cannot wait to read more in this series.

Excerpt:
Kate held the water bottle out and Jace reached for it, and set it on the ground at their feet. Then he drew her close. She stared up at him, heart hammering. “I almost kissed you the other night on my back porch,” he said. “But you pulled away.”
“I’ve regretted that ever since,” she said softly, and stood on tip-toe to press her lips to his.
He kissed her the way she imagined he did everything else, with a quiet thoroughness and skill that left no room for doubts or second thoughts. She closed her eyes and surrendered to the firm heat of his lips on hers, the taste of him on her tongue, the feel of his strong arms encircling her. It was as if she had been asleep for months, and the kiss awakened her, blood humming in her veins, every nerve buzzing with awareness of him.
When at last they broke apart, both breathless and panting a little, they stared at each other. “Maybe my other regret is that we didn’t do this sooner,” he said, smoothing one hand along the curve of her hip. “Say, ten years ago.”
“No, sooner wouldn’t have been as good,” she said. “You have to grow into a kiss like that.”
He kissed her again, letting his lips wander after a moment, from her mouth along the curve of her jaw and down the column of her neck, resting a moment over the pulse at her throat. She let out a breathy moan and dug her fingers into his biceps. If he could leave her this weak-kneed with just a kiss, imagine what he could do with the rest of his body.

Excerpt:
Snowflakes fell from the black sky, lazily making their way down to the cold earth. It was so quiet that she could hear them when they landed.
All of the animals, both wild and domestic, were hunkered down to wait out the December storm.
She sat on the deck allowing the fat flakes to gather on her eye lashes. The house was quiet; her girls snug in bed and sound asleep. She felt moisture slide down her cheeks but didn’t bother to wipe them away. She looked up towards the heavens and sighed.
“I don’t know how to do this without you. We made so many plans, had so many dreams. Our girls need their daddy and I need my best friend. You kept me strong. Made me a better mother because you were an amazing father. My heart hurts. My mind aches and I don’t know that I’m strong enough to do this alone.”
She dropped her eyes and wiped away the tears. A breeze rustled the naked branches and she shivered. Gathering her empty tea cup, she let herself back into the house. She didn’t see the lone red rose petal fall from the sky and settle onto the seat of her chair

I'm an accidental author as I began writing my first story, Mechanics of Murder, after I had been fired for taking maternity leave. I took a 3rd shift job and trying to keep myself awake, I used my imagination and started creating a story of a female mechanic, which I was, finding a dead body underneath the truck she was working on. My father absolutely loved the story and encouraged me to complete it and get it published. I was almost finished with the first draft when my father had a stroke. Encouraging him to get better, I rushed the book to Lulu Publishing without it being edited. My father was able to hold my first novel but was never able to read it; he passed away 2 days later. But it began a passion for me that has not dwindled!

Just when you least expect it, love finds you forever.
Photographer Avery Smart refuses to believe in “forever cowboys” after her father died in a tragic rodeo accident, until professional bull rider Grant Hollow decides to shed new light into the darkroom of her heart.
Excerpt
For a moment, all Grant could see was coppery hair with strands of gold highlighted by the sun. He squinted and made out the lovely face of Avery Smart, her brows drawn in concern.
Instantly, she hooked her elbows beneath Grant’s arm pits and proceeded to drag his weight with all her might. When Grant realized what was happening, that he was still in the rodeo arena near a two-thousand-pound bull that hadn’t been driven to the exit pen yet, he stumbled to his feet and turned the tables on Avery. Scooping her into his large arms, he hugged her close and made a mad dash for the fence.
“Good thing you’re light!” he cried, his feet drumming beneath him. A cowboy swung open a nearby gate. Grant rushed through, panting for breath as the cowboy slammed it shut. He held Avery so tightly to his chest, she could feel his heart hammering through his shirt as if he didn’t quite believe they’d made it to safety.
“You’ve heard of Dances with Wolves?” said the announcer. “Looks to me like Grant Hollow was dancing with the photographer! Am I the only who’s noticed he hasn’t put her down yet? Let’s give that cowboy a hand for protecting a lady the old fashioned way.”
The crowd applauded and whistled their approval.
“I’ve never had to clear the arena before I sprinted to the fence before.” Grant smiled, his face so close to Avery’s he could kiss her. The glint in his eye revealed he’d thought about it.
“Clear the arena? What am I, an empty beer can?”Avery replied, unable to hide the warmth that suffused her cheeks. The truth was, his muscled biceps felt heavenly against her body. And from this vantage point, she got an even closer look at his to die-for eyes.
“I didn’t mean it that way.” A smile teased Grant’s lips, which where perilously close to hers. “A woman like you couldn’t be trash if you tried.” He paused, his eyes tracing the amber highlights that perfectly framed her beautiful face. “More like striking gold.” He took in the warm brown of her eyes and the curve of her mouth, which Avery found sexy to the point of excruciating. “Next time, though,” Grant scolded, “I suggest you don’t try to rescue one of your photo subjects. Bulls are non-discriminating—they’ll take out anybody.”

Say Nothing by Autumn Piper
The best medicine doesn’t always come in pill form, but who knew it could be a scruffy, cranky cowboy?
After escaping from the psycho who held her prisoner for months, Brooke often suffers panic attacks when she tries to speak. When her cousin invites her to recuperate at his friends’ ranch in Colorado and help them care for their twin toddlers, she accepts.
For years since his engagement went belly-up, lead ranch-hand Rowdy has been non-relationship material. He feels a connection with Brooke, though, and she’s able to confide things in him she doesn’t trust her therapist with.
When her successful ex rides back into the picture, Rowdy will have to decide: fight for Brooke, or give her the financially stable future she deserves.
Excerpt:
Her phone vibrated on the nightstand. Weird. Here it was…the clock said after one a.m. She’d ignore it, but who would be texting her in the middle of the night except in an emergency? She kept the throw around her shoulders and picked up her phone.
Rowdy. Huh.
You OK?
She walked back to the window, looked down at his cabin, where a light shone. She texted back, Yes I’m fine but then erased the lie and sent, Are you OK? Why you up in the middle of the night?
He replied, Trouble sleeping. (me) It’ll pass in a couple days though. What about you? Nightmare?
How’d he guess? Well, she had told him she had nightmares. Yes. Flashback. Pretty much ruins a night.
I’m sorry, he texted. And then, If you wanted to tell me about it, I’m all eyes. The goofy-eyed emoji he included made her smile.
She considered. Her cold sweat had nearly dried. The worst of this episode had passed. By morning, details would fade, and she’d only be able to remember bare facts. Which was why Roberta pushed hypnosis, but Brooke kept resisting because she didn’t exactly want to be able to remember those things at all hours of the day. It would be a lot of texting, she told Rowdy.
Worried you’ll wear out your thumbs?
Throwing down a challenge. She hadn’t shared any more details than the police and prosecutor demanded, though she knew court was coming and she’d have to type replies to the attorneys’ questions if she didn’t have her speech back by then.
So she told him every detail she could recall about that day.

Peyton’s Kiss by Ann Anders
No one ever promised Stella Fairchild that life would be fair. If it was, then her best friend wouldn’t be dying. A little girl wouldn’t be losing her mother. And a lonely cowboy would be ready for love. Under the blue skies of Colorado, however, fate has its own ideas. And maybe, just maybe, silver linings could be found hiding in the storm.
Excerpt:
He didn’t laugh at her. “I never get tired of it. The open space, the sky. But it can also be dangerous if it turns on you. Don’t come up here alone, okay? Storms move in quickly. If you don’t know what you’re doing you can find yourself in trouble real fast.” He rubbed Hermes’ neck fondly. “Hell, you can get into trouble even when you do know what you’re doing.”
Stella shivered at his words and watched Corinne and Misty disappear over the rise up ahead. “Two sides to every coin.”
He wouldn’t say anything. He’d think her words over first.
And then Hermes sidled up beside her, pressing her leg into Pickles. Peyton’s hand grasped the back of her neck and… finally.
Her hat tumbled down her back at the same time Peyton’s mouth covered hers. At first it was just their lips, meeting, joining, but then the tip of his tongue coaxed her mouth open and she couldn’t help but drop her reins and take hold of Peyton’s wrists. A current of emotions swept through her as she twisted to meet him.
He slowed the kiss. “Easy girl.” He whispered against her lips. Stella felt Peyton set the reins back into her hands before Hermes stepped away.

After suffering a devastating shooting, Sawyer Bennet moves to Black Mountain, Colorado, to recover. As a Sheriff’s Posse member, he is called out to find a dangerous criminal, but loses his heart instead.
Excerpt:
“Damn it, I left my hat out there.”
“That can be replaced. You can’t,” Brynn said.
The warmth in her eyes and tone caused him to pause. “Thanks.”
“It’s true,” she insisted. “Now, how do we get out of here?”
He held his hands over the fire. “How’s Brooke?”
“Pretty sick for her to sleep through gunfire. I’m worried.” Fear flashed in her eyes, and without thinking, he stepped close and took her in his arms. She fit exactly right. Almost as tall as his own six feet, soft breasts crushed against his chest, long legs he could imagine tangled with his…
“Don’t,” he said, shaking off the sexy image. “She’ll be okay.”
“She has to be.” A shudder ran through her and he ached to make all this go away. For half a cent, he’d go out and put himself back in the line of fire if it would get Brynn and Brooke out of here alive.
“I think we need to make a run for it,” he said finally. “Maybe under the cover of darkness….”
“The trail between here and my camp isn’t dangerous, as long as you don’t make a wrong turn like I did,” she said slowly. “If we did that in the dark, it could be fatal.”
“The trail from here to Durango is pretty straight, but it’s across a long, open stretch. Out in the open for a good part of it.”
“It’s taking a big risk,” she said. “Taking a midnight ride.”
“Yes.” He wouldn’t sugarcoat it. “But so is staying here.”

She stands and moves in front of me, her shoulders rigid. I stare into her eyes, and through that self-imposed wall of ice she’s built around herself, I see all the pain and despair, the burning hatred and raw defiance. It’s buried, but it’s there, an ember just waiting for oxygen. I lift a brow, waiting to see what she’ll do. “Whatever it is that you want to do, just do it!” “And what do I want to do?” “Just fuck me. Beat me. Pick your poison, but get it over with!” Her voice rises to a guttural snarl. She reaches for the straps of her dress, shoving them down her shoulders until the material falls, exposing her breasts. I grab her wrists and pin them together against my chest, repositioning her dress with my free hand and sliding the straps back over her shoulders. She’s shaking, her breathing ragged and her eyes wild. I can feel her pulse thrumming at her wrist, a primordial drumbeat against my fingertips. She yanks against my hold, a growl working up her throat. A cold smile inches over my lips. “You’d like that wouldn’t you?” She stills. “For me to be exactly what you expect.” I lean into her, bringing my lips to her ear. “I think you want to be a slave, Anna. I think you want to be treated like a fuck doll. You’d rather be a whore than deal with the unknown. At least that way, you know what men want from you, right? You’d know what I want from you.” She tugs on her wrists again, trying to break away from me, but I won’t let her. “No! I want…” “What do you want?” “I want to be free,” she whispers. I step closer to her, crushing her arms between our bodies as I place a finger beneath her chin. “No, you don’t. You say you want it, but I offer it to you, and you’re scared to take it. You’re so busy being so goddamn angry that you haven’t realized you’re standing in a cage and the door is open.” She tugs her face away from me. “I’m not angry,” she says. I laugh, sweeping a tendril of hair behind her ear. “Oh, avecita, you’re the angriest person I’ve ever met.” I see it in her, the rage. And her anger in itself is a volatile thing because just as she has been imprisoned, so has it. Lauren Lovell is an indie author from England. Lost in the
shadows of a tragedy that stripped Aurora June of everything she once loved,
she’s back in the small town of Balsam Grove, North Carolina, ready to face all
she’s kept locked away for seven years. Or so she thinks.
As one of
the victims of a string of mysterious disappearances in the small, picturesque
Appalachian Mountain town, darkness has become her home—her safe blanket when
the world reveals its true colors. But as the walls of darkness start to move
in on her, she knows the only way to free herself from her past is to face it,
head-on. She just needs to figure out how.
Upon
arrival, Aurora isn’t expecting her first collision to be with the boy she left
all those years ago. The boy who betrayed her trust with no regrets. The boy
who is no longer a boy, but a man with the same stormy eyes that swept her into
his current before she ever learned to swim.
She’d
thought he was safe. He’d thought their path was mapped out. Turns out neither
of them was ready for the crash at the bottom of the cascade.

Excerpt
As I approach the edge of the winding river less than a minute’s walk from my cottage, it’s like someone has injected me with life. With a lift of my chin, I close my eyes and inhale until I’m no longer dulled and disoriented. Everything becomes clear. In Balsam Grove, I breathe the air with new lungs, feel the breeze with new skin, and see the land through new eyes.
I don’t try to navigate my way. I hike beside the river, around every curve and bend, uphill and against the current. It’s a familiar path, but my focus isn’t on the destination. Every now and then I stop to take a drink from the stream, pluck a fiery pink flower, and tune into a wild animal scampering across fallen leaves. But it’s not until I reach a steeper incline that I take a moment to assess where I’m headed.
The river has significantly increased in speed since I began walking a few minutes ago. A steeper incline forces me to distance myself from the water’s edge, onto a more manageable path through the woods. My thighs burn from the steady climb, and my throat aches from dehydration. I never planned to journey this far, but I could have at least thought to bring water. I’m ready to turn back, find the river, and drink from it when I spot the top of a familiar red house peeking over the hill. Hummingbirds unleash in my chest as I inch forward.

I’m ready to turn back, find the river, and drink from it when I spot the top of a familiar red house peeking over the hill. Hummingbirds unleash in my chest as I inch forward.
Mere seconds later, I’m standing on flat land again, taking in the two-story home that overlooks a waterfall, an old millhouse beside it. It’s like it came out of nowhere, but this house—it’s home to some of my best memories, my biggest dreams, and the beginning of the horrible nightmare that ended life as I knew it.
“Ah, that’s my girl,” a voice booms in the distance. “Bring it here, Lacey.”
Shit. Jaxon?
My eyes sweep left, to the source of the river. Two waterfalls coming from different directions spill into one body of water where Jaxon treads. He’s patting the water as Lacey paddles over with a stick in her mouth.
Jaxon takes the stick, then rubs her head before she continues paddling to the edge of the river. After she climbs out and does a full body shake to dry off, he tosses the stick to the side and turns back to the water, swimming lap after lap until I’ve lost count. Every powerful stroke reveals inches of well-cut muscle and betrays his familiarity with the water.
Jaxon always loved everything about the water. Diving, swimming, fishing…sex. I shiver at the memory of how well our slick bodies fit together. Of his delicate fingers stripping me of my bikini top so he could see all of me as he inched his way into my body, my heart. Of his hot mouth wrapping around my pebbled nipple just to hear my whispered cry. Of the way he watched me with hooded eyes as I came for him, my back pressed against a boulder and the plunging falls above us swallowing my cries.
He took everything good from me, but it was me that handed it over for the taking.
He’s still mesmerizing, and I can’t take my eyes off him now. With every stroke, I imagine him swimming away from me, away from our past and deeper into the rushing swell of the stream. How long has he been swimming? How far?
I swallow my anxiety as he finally breaks from his exercise to catch his breath. When he does, I’m as breathless as he is.
I’m not sure how long I’ve been staring when he uses the slick rocks to pull himself from the water, but I’m completely captivated by the droplets coursing down his naked back and arms. He’s all strength and agility, effortlessly pulling himself to his feet. I should turn away, but I don’t. Instead, I watch as water glides from his long hair, down his narrow waist, and then over the most beautiful ass I’ve ever seen.
Is he…?
I gasp, my hand clapping over my mouth. But it’s too late. One slip of my breath is all it takes for Lacey’s snout to jerk in my direction and sound off the first menacing growl.
