Review: Dropout

Dropout Dropout by Jamie Schlosser
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the third book in the Good Guys series; however, each book can be read as a standalone. You see characters from the prior books here and there but nothing that won’t make sense if you didn’t read the prior books. While I’m reading a series that can be standalones, I am always trying to figure out who is going to be next in line for their own story. This one got me though cause this small town was limited on some Good Guys and hot ones at that. I love how the story played out and how you watch them grow. Mr. Peabody (poor James) was your average bad boy and party animal in college so this leads him to be a near college dropout unless he shapes up and makes reality happen. He’s got two months of Summer to shape up since he’s been shipped basically to good ole Grandma’s house for the Summer. He feels like a failure, but knows he needs to straighten his act to continue his full ride to school. What could possibly go wrong in this little town with limited places? Haha you shall see!
Grandma is hilarious more than ever in this book and that Bird has you laughing. For those of you who have read the prior books you see a small side of Grandma (Beverly), but in this book we get a more in depth look since its her grandson who is actually one of the Good Guys. Mackenna is Grandma’s neighbor and Gram certainly knew how to play these two like a fiddle. She’s a songwriter, has a kind heart and hasn’t had the best past, but from the moment she meets the thorn in her side, Jimmy he sneaks his way into her heart and leaves her feeling off kilter. So, the only way to rectify this since his time is limited is a benefit solution. Their chemistry and feelings are real, but what do you do when the time is up for him to head back to College? Well guess you will have to read the book to find out. Hehe
Jimmy really does a full 180 while staying at Grandma’s for the Summer and the age difference really was not a big deal. 21 to 19 is fine with me and plenty of people cannot say they themselves haven’t been there in age. What I loved it that for once the girl was older than the boy! Mack is still feisty as ever, but socially awkward. Though they way she bonded so quickly with the other Good Guys girls, you would never know really. You laugh, whimper cause your heart hurts, a moment of being scared there, but you see how much he truly protects her and cares for her. Love the bonding that Jimmy was able to do with Hank, Travis and Colton. I would probably break my car just to take it to the shop, just saying.
This story is told from a dual POV, we see glimpses of how our other Good Guys/Gals are doing and we think we know who may be next in the series. You may gain a few pounds reading this book with all the junk food that sounds so good. These Good Guys just keep getting better and hotter and I cannot wait to read more in this series.
