I love her. But
she loves him.
I’d known Avery Grant was the one for me since the moment she bossed me
around on the playground. After over a decade of friendship, I’m still biding
my time, waiting for the moment she realizes everything she’s ever wanted is
standing right in front of her.
Then one white envelope sends my world spiraling.
A wedding invitation, announcing Avery’s engagement to the one man who
could never deserve her: Miles Johnson.
Miles is the worst kind of human — and my biggest rival. Everything I
can do, he thinks he can do better, including being the best rookie pitcher the
MLB has seen in decades. But if he makes her happy, who am I to interfere?
But when Avery shows up on my doorstep, devastated and heartbroken from
Miles’s betrayal, I can’t help but open my doors for her.
The timing is all wrong, but I won’t miss my shot.
This time, I refuse to strike out.

The Rival is book three in the Washington Rampage series and each can be read as a standalone, but you will miss out on these hot men in tight baseball pants that have so much heart in them once you get their story. It’s like getting the inside scoop on the players intimate side that we don’t see on game day.
Carter doesn’t take girls up on their offers and is quick to stop Brandon from letting a Rival teammate have a few drinks with them in Book two (The Cleanup) and we wanted to know the mystery behind this and while we knew it was something similar to what is revealed, we didn’t know the details and boy were we wrong on some if not all the things we probably thought on why he was like he was. So, in this book we finally get the full story and it’s full of love, tears, sadness mixed with anger and some laughter. He may have struck out this whole time, but he’s going for a hit and home-run this time around.
He has known Avery, since they were in grammar school and have been best friends since the moment they met on the playground. He’s loved her since then, but he never wanted to ruin the friendship they had by taking a risk of her knowing so he sits back and hides his feelings. This breaks your heart reading this! We learn why he never took the girls up on their offerings. Avery. We learn that his Rival is more than another team player in the baseball world. The description can go on for “Miles” (pun intended) and speaking of “Miles” we learn he was a jerk then and is still a jerk now and that’s putting his description nicely.
Miles may be one of the best rookie pitchers, but his ultimate betrayal was a playoff game changer between Carter and Avery. Scores keep coming in and Carter will show Avery that he’s done hiding his feelings and he wants the home-run with her. He may strike out, but he won’t lose this time around. I love this series and love seeing how the prior characters are doing. I truly hope this isn’t the end for the Washington Rampage cause this team has some more home-runs to score! If you love friend to lovers or sports stories this book is for you; if you don’t then you are just missing out on the score of all scores, a HOME-RUN!!
