First off can I just start out by saying that this cover is HOT! I’m a cover girl and this book just screams purchase me if you’ve never read A.L.. If you haven’t you seriously don’t know what your missing out on as these three S’s (sexy, suspenseful and second chance) books just keep getting better and better begging for more.
It’s the highly anticipated story, we have been waiting for in the Fight for Me series (that can be read as standalones if you choose, but my OCD won’t let me) and it’s Ollie’s time for us to see a different side of him that we saw in the series and wanted to know more about not only his story, but the Nikki tension. A lightbulb did go off though when Rex and Ollie have a discussion that affected both when they were young. It by no way impacts the story if you haven’t read any other book in this series, if you have then you know Rex’s story and it was nice to have Rex push Ollie out of his shell to see what was hidden for so many years and if he can find happiness so can Ollie. Fourteen years is a long time to live after the destruction that began from a nightmare that still tortures you. Ollie and Nikki were close since his sister, Sydney was Nikki’s BF, the intense flames burned from their youth and still burn to this day, but they forego a chance at happiness due to the past. When you love someone you let them go, if they come back it was meant to be, right? Well this is the only thing Ollie and Nikki were able to do until a turn threatens Nikki’s safety. You can see the love these two had for years and the hurt they put each other through trying to save themselves from being destroyed (more than they already were).
There was a ton of suspense not only regarding Nikki/Ollie’s relationship of before and now, but the suspense of Nikki’s safety and who it was, what happened to Sydney and Nikki’s family that had you page turning to get the anticipated outcome. You will tear up a few times, laugh and then sigh when you know you are at the end of the series for these characters we love. I hope we get to see more on them, the town development and maybe even a side of Sydney somewhere. That bonus chapter POV was not only a bonus but made us see the wasted years that Nikki/Ollie could have had all along and didn’t. That’s OK in a way cause it gave us the Ollie story and a chance for them to heal themselves all around as a whole. Each story has a place in my heart and it’s hard to choose the one I love the best, but Olive’s is the place to be and if I could I would have a drink there. If only we could really go into the characters world literally. The “Fly, Fly, dragonfly” made me think of the movie “Dragonfly”, where it wasn’t the same, but had me thinking that the “dragonfly” was Sydney and watching and guiding Ollie and Nikki. It had you thinking just like the characters, “Is she alive or gone?” I had hoped for a twist on Sydney (oh we got the twist, just not the one I was hoping for), but, the years lost made us feel like Ollie and Nikki. Closure is what they needed and got. This book is about finding yourself, getting a second chance at romance and wanting to be apart of this Gingham Lake’s circle of friends.
