Title: Maybe Don't Wanna
Series: The Simple Man Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romance Suspense
Unlike the superhero his mother named him after, Parker is no good guy.
In fact, if there’s a picture in the dictionary under anti-hero, it’s his.
Parker’s spent his life trying to get back on the right side of the tracks, but each step he takes forward, he takes two more steps back.
To save one, he hurts others. To make this good, he turns that bad.
For appearances’ sake, he plays the part. He does what people expect him to do—mostly. And at the end of each day, he goes back to his lonely apartment and wishes he was a different person. One who could fix the things he’s broken.
Then Kayla Nash forces her way into his life, and the world as he knows it is irrevocably changed.
Everything he thinks he has right is wrong. And everything he thinks is wrong is oh, so right.
One thing leads to another, and suddenly he’s growing a conscience, and trying to prove to her that he’s as bad as everybody says he is.
Yet she won’t listen.
She’s convinced that she can save him.
Little does she know, Parker isn’t worth saving, and never will be.
HOSTED BY:
Parker was a mystery to us and intrigued us wanting to know more about him in the other books we saw of him. Now it’s his turn for his story and boy does he play a good appearance part because his past still haunts him and leaves him broken. You would never know this with the game face he puts on from what you saw of him, we just knew we wanted his story. Maybe Don’t Wanna shows us that what is right can be oh so wrong but is oh so right at the same time.
Kayla’s no filter and her actions fit her perfectly. She sees the good in Parker when he sees the bad in all things in his broken world. Your emotions run deep and you’ll tear up a time or two. We get that sweet, funny and suspense that Lani loves to give to keep us turning the page, but this one truly touches your heart. I never got a chance to read her dad’s story in the Freebird series, but from what I do know he would be so proud of her. She’s young and still hasn’t found her calling yet, but you can’t say she hasn’t tried everything to find her true calling.
While some may be turned off by the age difference in this series of books, I will say I love them and it makes it more realistic and get with the program because in real life this age difference does happen. Age is really just a number after your teenage years; a number shouldn’t be put on you to get your HEA. There are plenty of couples with a bigger age gap that are still happily married in real life and this just goes to show you that being close in age to someone else doesn’t mean you’ll find your soul mate.
Loved how Kayla and Janie taunt Rafe still and he takes it like a grain of salt. I also love that you get to see continuing characters from prior books or crossover characters from a different series. Whether it’s a hint at a possible future character for that series or someone that already has a book. What’s even better is all these books and series can be read as standalones if you choose to do this or can be read out of order, though I like reading in order even if they are standalones in a series.
Parker’s name had me chuckling then saying the tongue twister, Peter Piper picked a pickle. No clue why that came to mind when we learn his whole name. You’ll love these damaged characters, hurt with them and see that their connection is more than Hail in Hostel. Not only do you fall in love with Parker and Kayla you fall in love with a dog. These Simple Men are anything, but simple, but so dang hot with their tinge of gray.
